The Changing Room Magazine Launch Party

From the editor of Changing Room Magazine…

Traum Publishing will soon celebrate the launch of a new publication called The Changing Room Magazine that meets the demands of small and medium sized boutiques, designers and vendors who are underserved in today’s fashion marketplace with insight into succeeding in today’s boutique

On February 1, 2008 at 8 PM, boutique owners, employees, fashion designers, vendors and fashion enthusiasts will gather at The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel in downtown Portland to celebrate our Winter 2008 Launch Issue. The event will highlight designers and boutiques featured in the premiere issue including fashion previews from designers Rachel Mara and Liza Rietz, as well as Portland boutique Le Train Bleu, all accompanied by music, wine and Hors d’oeuvres.

I’m really excited about this event and the launch of the new magazine.  Not only do I have an article in the magazine, I’m also really proud to be associated with this effort to better this facet of our small business community.

Perfectly Pearl in Oregon Bride

Perfectly Pearl in Oregon Bride

The Perfectly Pearl Modern Bridal Event will be advertised in the upcoming issue of Oregon Bride Magazine. Our ad is a real coup, because we maximized our resources and minimized our cost. By coordinating the ad creation process between Studio Olivine (logo and ad layout), Powers Oregon (Photo), Ken Aaron Photography (photoshop work) and myself (ad copy), we were able to produce a stellar ad through volunteer effort. By utilizing our resources–tapping the time, energy and talents of these volunteers–we’ve increased the value of our event without additional cost. Best of all, and perhaps most importantly, the businesses involved in the event are building connections and creating community by tackling event-related projects together.

I think it’s possible to add value and reduce the cost of any event if you simply maximize your resources. In my opinion, maximizing resources is the most valuable (and overlooked!) skill that you can develop for your marketing, advertising and public relations toolbox.

It’s definitely a trick, not a treat!

The scariest thing about this Halloween is the number of things on my to do list. Yikes! I’m finishing up the November/December issue of the Neighborhood Notes Newsletter, November Sitka Newsletter and the November Neighborhood Notes eNewsletter. If that wasn’t enough–and really, who’s counting–I have a grant application due tomorrow.

In addition, there are several blogs to maintain and this morning we have a Perfectly Pearl meeting and tonight we’re sponsoring a family friendly Halloween event in the Pearl.

Getting everything finished will definitely be a treat. 🙂

Perfectly Pearl

A while ago, I posted about a big pitch to the Oregonian. While I can’t disclose everything, I can tell you that Pearl District retailers are creating a modern bridal event to support the district’s emerging role as resource and destination for weddings. The event is called Perfectly Pearl and it will be held on March 1 in Ecotrust.

My pitch to the Oregonian was specifically tailored to an issue of Explore the Pearl Magazine. The editorial board of ETP is considering the idea and I’ll soon learn whether or not the pitch is a go. I’ve never written wedding editorial, but I’m really excited to promote our neighborhood in such a wonderful capacity.

Crafting the event has been a really great experience. It’s a very grassroots effort that has blossomed with the generosity of our growing list of participants. I can’t wait to share more about this! Stay tuned.

Here comes the pitch

Today I’m pitching a huge story to the Oregonian for one of their special publications. It could be the topic of an entire issue of a magazine. In addition, there is the possibility that the project will also encompass an event.

Stay tuned!
